Kuala Lumpur, 9 June 2026 – For many communities in remote parts of Sabah, access to emergency medical care remains a critical challenge, where difficult terrain and long travel distances can delay life-saving treatment.

Demonstrating its commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare access, Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia), via its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, has contributed a specialised ambulance to Malaysian Red Crescent Sandakan Branch (MRC Sandakan). This initiative is aimed at strengthening frontline emergency response capabilities and improving healthcare accessibility for underserved communities.

Officially unveiled on 9 May 2026 during the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebration at Yu Yuan Secondary Hall, the newly equipped ambulance, a modified double cab designed for off-road and hard-to-reach terrain that is intended to bridge critical service gaps. It will enable responders to reach patients in remote locations more efficiently, deliver urgent care, and facilitate faster transfers to medical facilities.

Allianz Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Sean Wang, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader purpose of securing futures and supporting resilient communities.

“At Allianz Malaysia, we believe our responsibility extends beyond providing financial protection to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. By enhancing emergency response capabilities in underserved areas, we are helping to bridge protection gaps and ensure that more Malaysians have access to critical care when it matters most.”

The ambulance is expected to benefit thousands of residents across remote areas in Sandakan, where access to medical care has traditionally been limited. By improving response times and operational reach, the initiative contributes directly to better health outcomes and community wellbeing.

MRC Sandakan has long operated with a limited and ageing fleet, including vehicles that have served the community for over 30 years. These constraints have impacted the branch’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies and meet growing demand for medical assistance.

The addition of this new ambulance is set to improve turnaround times and operational readiness, and enabling safer, more efficient patient care. It will support MRC teams in delivering timely and quality emergency services under challenging conditions as the ambulance is equipped with essential medical facilities.

MRC Sandakan Branch Chairperson, Josie Pang, said, “In Sandakan, reaching patients in remote areas often involves navigating difficult terrain and long travel distances, which can delay critical care. We are grateful for this contribution as it enhances our operational readiness on the ground, enabling our teams to reach underserved communities more efficiently and provide better support during emergency situations.”

MRC has played a longstanding role in delivering humanitarian aid, emergency relief, and healthcare support in Sabah. Sandakan remains one of the regions where enhanced resources and logistical support are essential to meeting increasing community needs.

The collaboration underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing healthcare accessibility challenges, particularly in regions geographically complex regions while reinforcing the shared responsibility of building inclusive, sustainable, and resilient communities.
