MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil to conclude two-year tenure after securing RM180 Billion in Digital Investments for Nation
Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, will conclude his tenure upon completing his two-year contract on 2nd October 2026.
Anuar has informed the MDEC Board that after careful consideration, he has decided not to seek a renewal of his contract as he prepares to pursue new opportunities outside MDEC.
MDEC Chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah said that the Board respected his decision. He described Anuar as a “leader who led MDEC with both head and heart”.
“Having worked closely with Anuar, I have personally valued his judgement, candour as well as his commitment to MDEC and fellow colleagues,” said Ganesh. “
Anuar spearheaded MDEC’s drive towards AI Nation 2030, gave us all a renewed sense of mission and insisted that our work be measured by real outcomes: Investments that create good jobs, stronger Malaysian companies and greater opportunities for our nation’s talent,” he added.
“Under Anuar’s leadership, MDEC is today stronger, more focused and better prepared. The foundations Anuar laid will continue to shape MDEC’s work well beyond his tenure. He is leaving MDEC with our gratitude, respect and warmest wishes.”
During Anuar’s tenure, MDEC delivered strong investment and employment outcomes. From 2025 to August 2026, MDEC secured close to RM180 billion in digital investments from more than 1,000 Malaysia Digital (MD) status companies. These investments are expected to generate more than 42,000 high-value jobs for Malaysians.
This reflects a maturing digital economy that is shifting decisively towards higher-value, AI-led growth, positioning Malaysia not only as a consumer but also as a creator of technology.
Beyond investment, Anuar sharpened MDEC’s focus on execution, accountability and measurable economic outcomes, anchoring the organisation’s performance on jobs, exports, revenue and investments. Anuar repositioned MDEC as the nation’s specialist digital implementation agency and set in motion its role in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming an inclusive, trusted, and globally competitive AI Nation by 2030.
He also prepared MDEC for its responsibilities under the Malaysia Digital 2030 action plan, focusing on AI adoption, high-value digital investments, industry transformation, talent development, and the growth of ‘Made by Malaysia’ technologies.
Anuar said leading MDEC had been one of the greatest privileges of his professional life.
“When I accepted the responsibility of leading MDEC, I did so with a simple belief that we could once again lead from the front and play a defining role in Malaysia’s next digital chapter,” he said.
“I wanted us to be judged not simply by the number of activities we announced but by the results we delivered for the country, for industry and for the rakyat. Everything we have achieved belongs to the extraordinary people of MDEC and to our partners across the technology ecosystem who believed in our mission.”
He added that after considerable reflection, he had concluded that the completion of his present contract was the right time to pursue new opportunities outside MDEC.
“This has not been an easy decision precisely because MDEC, our people and our mission have come to mean so much to me,” he said.
“I leave with immense pride in what we have accomplished together and with complete confidence in MDEC’s future. While I may be leaving this role, my belief in MDEC and in Malaysia’s digital future remains as strong as ever,” concluded Anuar.
