Healthy, radiant skin starts with protection. In Malaysia’s tropical climate, caring for your skin isn’t just about beauty—it’s an investment in your long-term health and confidence.

That’s the message KAO Malaysia is championing with its latest campaign, “Skin Protection, Life Perfection,” launched in collaboration with Watsons to spotlight the lifelong importance of skin health starting from a young age.

By collaborating with Bioré’s effective skin protection products with Watsons’ rewards-based programme, the initiative creates a seamless ecosystem that encourages Malaysians to adopt skin protection as a foundation for lifelong health and confidence. A key feature of the campaign is a 1% sales donation pledge, dedicated to supporting local research to advance awareness and practices around skin protection and lifelong skin health.

Well-Being Starts with Radiant Skin

At the launch event, Yamazaki Hirobumi, President of KAO Malaysia, emphasized the brand’s commitment to making skin protection a meaningful part of daily life. “We want to remind Malaysians that every act of care, no matter how small, can shape a more radiant and confident tomorrow. With Bioré at the heart of this initiative, we’re proud to champion a message that blends science, self-love, and the simple joy of healthy skin,” he said.

He further highlighted that KAO's collaboration with Watsons stems from a shared vision to empower people with informed choices about their health and skincare. “Through this partnership, we aim to make effective health solutions more accessible, reinforcing our commitment to public education and helping Malaysians embrace healthy, glowing skin,” he said.

This campaign aligns with KAO’s broader Kirei Lifestyle Plan, which encourages individuals to make thoughtful choices that contribute to their well-being and the world around them.

Unlocking Skincare Essentials

Dr. Noraini Binti Ahmad, Associate Professor ChM, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, gave an in-depth presentation on “The Science Behind Effective Skincare Ingredients: Why Formulations Matter?”.

Associate Professor Dr. Noraini Ahmad delivered an insightful presentation on “The Science Behind Effective Skincare Ingredients: Why Formulations Matter,” emphasising the crucial role of skincare in protecting against UV rays, pollution, and Malaysia’s tropical heat.

She discussed the long-term consequences of skipping sunscreen, such as premature wrinkles, dark spots, sunburns, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Rather than simply outlining the problems, she provided practical solutions, breaking down the science behind effective sunscreen. She also debunked common myths, including the misconception that sunscreen isn’t necessary on cloudy days.

Tips for Better Skin that Affect Mental Wellness

Dr. Lim Ing Kien (Dr. Ingky), Doctor of Medicine, Founder of Ventamin, presenting key skincare principles suitable for all age groups.

This was followed by a presentation conducted by Dr. Lim Ing Kien, Doctor of Medicine, from Ventamin, who highlighted the link between skincare and mental well-being, pointing out that neglecting skincare can lead to both visible skin issues and emotional stress. He explained that skincare is more than vanity—it's a vital self-care practice that boosts confidence and reduces stress.

Dr. Lim introduced his three-step approach: double cleansing, daily SPF application, and using skincare products tailored to Malaysian skin and climate. He explained how double cleansing removes makeup, sunscreen, and impurities, especially for oily or acne-prone skin. He also stressed the importance of choosing hydrating, lightweight products backed by science to combat Malaysia's environmental factors.

Taking Proactive Steps for Long-Term Skin Care

Caryn Loh, Managing Director Watsons Malaysia and COO Health & Beauty Asia, speaking on Watsons’ collaboration with KAO Malaysia in support of the “Skin Protection, Life Perfection” campaign.

When asked about the motivation behind supporting this initiative, Caryn Loh shared that the campaign aligns with the shared vision of both Watsons and KAO Malaysia to empower Malaysians to prioritise skin health in their daily lives. She said that this collaboration seeks to address the knowledge gap many Malaysians have regarding skincare and skin protection. By educating people on proper skincare habits, both day and night, Watsons aims to reach more individuals and guide them on how to take better care of their skin.

“With our extensive network of stores and online platforms, loyalty program, and ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) collaborations, including recent initiatives with University Malaya, we’re confident we can help amplify KAO Malaysia’s message and drive positive habits among Malaysians. Together, we look forward to empowering more individuals to take proactive steps in caring for their skin, now and in the long term.
