AA Aviation strengthens position in airline distribution network through B2B wholesale ticketing
AA Aviation Sdn Bhd is strengthening its position as a key player in Malaysia’s aviation distribution ecosystem through its specialised business-to-business (B2B), wholesale ticketing model, serving thousands of travel agencies and online travel agents (OTA) while building a strong track record of industry recognition and innovation.
The company is also part of the Apple Travel Group, further reinforcing its integrated presence within the regional travel and aviation services sector.
At the centre of its operations is a wholesale model that acts as an intermediary between airlines and travel agencies, enabling seamless ticket issuance for agencies that lack direct airline ticketing capabilities.
Explaining the business structure, Managing Director of AA Aviation Sdn Bhd, Datuk Sri Koh Yock Heng (Kohsan), who is also Co-Founder and Group Managing Director of Apple Travel Group, said AA Aviation sits strategically in the middle of the aviation supply chain.
“Our business is doing B2B wholesale ticketing. There are so many travel agencies in Malaysia. As an agent, you need to book the ticket and issue it. Many agencies don’t have the facility to issue tickets. So basically, we are the supplier for the travel agency,” he said.
He added that the company’s supply network is anchored directly to airlines while its customers are travel agencies and OTAs.
“Our suppliers are airlines, while our customers are travel agencies. We operate as an intermediary in the B2B wholesale ticketing business,” he said.
AA Aviation currently works with approximately 2,000 travel agencies in Malaysia, supported by a global airline network of more than 200 carriers, reinforcing its role as a high-volume distribution hub for aviation tickets.

The company’s growth has been reinforced by multiple industry recognitions, including participation in the SME100 Awards for two consecutive years, alongside a wider portfolio of awards and accolades. He emphasised that recognition is especially important in a service-based industry where trust and performance define competitiveness.
“Because we are doing servicing, branding is very crucial. SME100 Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in the market. We have been participating since last year, and this is our second year,” he said.
Competitive edge driven by speed and aviation expertise
Kohsan said AA Aviation differentiates itself through speed of service and aviation knowledge, both critical in a fast-moving ticketing environment.
“The service level that we provide to the agent is very important. Speed allows us to respond quickly to customer inquiries ,” he said.

He added that understanding the complexity of airline operations across hundreds of global carriers gives AA Aviation a strong advantage in delivering accurate and efficient solutions.
“We are dealing with more than 200 airlines in the world. Knowledge in aviation is one of our key strengths,” he said.
Changing travel behaviour reshaping the industry
AA Aviation also sees significant shifts in consumer behaviour, particularly the rise of free independent travel (FIT) compared to traditional group inclusive tours (GIT), driven by digital access to information.
“FIT is getting more popular than GIT. People now prefer to buy tickets and hotels themselves and travel freely,” Kohsan said.
He noted that travel is no longer a luxury but part of everyday lifestyle consumption, especially in the post-COVID era.

“Traveling has become a very important part of lifestyle. After COVID, demand is even higher than before,” he added.
Digitalisation and AI-driven operations
To remain competitive, AA Aviation is investing heavily in automation and digital systems, including AI-assisted processes for ticket issuance, invoicing, and operational reporting.
“We have auto ticketing where issuance is automated when requests come in. We also use AI systems for invoices and statements to ensure efficiency,” he said.
The company is also strengthening its data infrastructure to support long-term scalability across its airline and agency networks.
Looking ahead: Golden Bull Awards ambition
AA Aviation’s participation in awards programmes is part of a broader strategy to strengthen brand positioning and industry recognition. While already active in SME100, the company is now setting its sights on expanding its presence in larger platforms, including the Golden Bull Awards.
Kohsan said awards play a supporting role in reinforcing credibility in a service-driven business.
“Awards are important to endorse our business model and service index. They help strengthen our brand in the market,” he said.
Focus on clarity, strategy over IPO plans
On future expansion strategies, including the possibility of an IPO, Kohsan said the company remains focused on fundamentals rather than listing ambitions.
“We are constantly asking ourselves what our target is. In our retail segment, we focus on direct customers, while in wholesale ticketing, we operate under a business-to-business (B2B) model. As such, we are positioning ourselves as a ticketing partner to better serve our customers. For us, that priority is more important than pursuing an IPO,” he said.

Industry outlook: cost pressures ahead
Commenting on the aviation sector outlook, Kohsan said rising oil prices and ongoing global uncertainty are expected to continue exerting pressure on airfares and overall travel demand.
He noted that the resulting inflationary environment is likely to make consumers more cautious in their spending, particularly for travel-related expenses.
“With the current war situation, oil prices are definitely getting higher and when the price goes up, air tickets naturally become more expensive.
“This inflation means the market will become more conservative, and consumers will be far more cautious about how they spend their money,” he said.
Despite these challenges, he stressed that AA Aviation Sdn Bhd remains focused on operational efficiency and strengthening its positioning as a reliable B2B ticketing partner.
“Our focus is to remain a reliable ticketing partner to ensure we serve our customers better during these cautious times,” he said.
