Sanctimonious Muslim politicians gives themselves away the moment you ask them about Timberland jeans and timber bans in Kelantan. When Kelantan was flooded, the sanctimonious Muslims claimed that it was an act of God, because the implementation of hudud law has not been passed in Kelantan.

They will reject claims that the Kelantan state government has been complicit in approving land clearing, despite reports by Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) and the Kelantan Forestry Department that there is rampant illegal logging.

The sanctimonious Muslims have no clue about the effects of deforestation, but have an unshaken stance on Timberland, and other brands of jeans.

The women (and it is always the women who are punished), must dress properly. Jeans are too tight. Tops are too revealing. Their hair must not be on show. If they dress provocatively, they may make men uncomfortable and could invite rape.

The cure is simple. If it is unbearable, Muslim men can easily avert their eyes from women. Malay men must learn to control their primal urges, or take a cold shower!

Few, if any, Malay men are arrested for wearing jeans, nor tight-fitting, Lycra cycling shorts. No male mufti will say anything about men who emerge from the sea in a wet sarong, and doing their own version of a women’s wet T-shirt competition.

On Saturday, it was reported that 31 women had been arrested in “a northern Malaysian state” for wearing tight clothing and sporting uncovered hair. On social media, photos of women in jeans, were shown being stopped at police roadblocks and told to don kain pulikat (male sarong) before they could resume their journey.

The women were summoned to appear in court and have also been offered counseling. What for? The money would be better spent on counseling the Kelantan mufti, Mohamad Shukri Mohamad, and Hadi Awang, the PAS president. Both men, with the collusion of Najib Abdul Razak, want to lead Malaysia back into the Dark Ages.

Mohamad Shukri said that non-Muslims should respect Muslims by dressing appropriately. He said that it was haram because Muslim men might bump into these inappropriately dressed non-Muslims. We have been assured that hudud will not apply to non-Muslims.

Muslim women are censured for wearing jeans and for failing to wear a tudung. How long will it be before Hadi's wish, for all women to stay at home, be fulfilled?

Women will be banned from driving. Women will be denied an education. Women will stay at home, and their full-time job will be to mind children, cook and please their husband.

Malaysia to be the next Aceh?

The Malay women who think this is scaremongering need only look at Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, where the women are caged in the home prison. Malay women deserve better than this.

The silence of Malaysians, including the moderate Malays has forced Malaysia to this crossroads. Do they want Malaysia to be the next Aceh?

The Kelantan mufti warned Muslim women to control their language and behaviour. Not a word was said about Malay men who frequent seedy sex spots in Thailand. Or the men who practise unprotected sex, and then infect their wives with sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/Aids.

Or the fact that Kelantan people watch the most porn on Internet sites.

The mufti said that Islam teaches Muslims not to waste money, but did he, or any of Malaysia’s learned muftis, mention the wastage of the PM and his spouse? Did he warn about the vanity projects, which waste taxpayer’s money? Did he censure the Tabung Haji and Zakat Fund bosses for their alleged abuse of Muslim savings and tax?

Kelantan is the poorest state in west Malaysia. If Hadi thinks the tourist industry will bring him much needed currency, think again. The westerners prefer Thailand, Indonesia or Indo-China, to Kelantan. They will certainly not want to go to a state ruled by quasi-hudud.

Hadi may try to convince himself that tourists from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East will still visit Kelantan. These Muslims visit Malaysia to escape their own oppressive regimes, not to enjoy the repression of home.

When Hadi and Najib turn Malaysia into an extremist Muslim state, the new American president may have some surprises in store for Malaysia, such as sanctions and trade embargoes. If we are not suffering now, we will soon be.

So, do Muslim women agree with the recent dress and language ruling, by the Kelantan mufti, or are they cowed by his threats of retribution, both on earth and in hell?

If one took seriously all the rubbish that is spewed-out by the mullahs and muftis in Malaysia, one would think that hell is overpopulated with Malay women who refused to heed the advice of their menfolk.

Who would want to go to heaven, if it is full of terrorists and sanctimonious muftis? Will there really be enough sets of Pyrex kitchenware, for all the ‘pious’ Muslim women?
