COMMENT |​ “Astaghfirullahalazim!”

That was my first reaction upon reading the news about Sungai Besar Umno chief, Jamal Md Yunos who is being investigated by the police over his beer-smashing stunt outside the Selangor State Secretariat (SUK) building yesterday morning.

Apparently, Jamal had brought several boxes of beer consisting of approximately over a hundred bottles of beer to the gates of the building before smashing them with a sledgehammer as a sign of protest against beer festivals being held in Selangor.

As a Muslim, I feel very disheartened by Jamal’s actions, for he has contributed to the wealth of a non-halal company by purchasing the non-halal beverage. May Allah have mercy on Jamal’s tainted soul.

Despite Jamal’s good intention to protect the well-being of the people of Selangor, it hurts me to see him waste his hard-earned few hundred ringgit to commit something totally foolish, which, by the way, does not even benefit the cause he and his counterparts are struggling to fight for.

I mean, how can he possibly think that smashing a hundred beer bottles could stop Oktoberfest in Selangor? 

Or is he prepared to buy every bottle of beer from every pub, bar, restaurant and hotel in the state?

Sigh.

If only Jamal took a moment to think over and analyse his protest plan, he may have realised how childish it is to hammer boxes of beer bottles as an act of disagreement.

It sounds too much like a baby throwing off his milk bottle when he is unhappy. On second thoughts, Jamal does have the tendency to act like a baby when he is unhappy.

Next time, Jamal dearest, please use a better way to show your dissatisfaction towards any issue. You may hold up placards with big words or you could also commit yourself to a hunger strike.  Those would suit you better.

Or better still, if your intention is really pure, why not use the same few hundred ringgit spent on the beer bottles to organise a kenduri and sembahyang hajat to pray for the betterment of the people of Selangor? 

Insya-Allah, your prayers may reach the people of Selangor, opening their hearts and giving them wisdom not to waste their well-being in order to get drunk over some silly beer drinking festival - that would be more afdal (meritorious) in Islam. 

Anyhow, now that Jamal has gotten himself into trouble (once again) due to his aggressive  and provocative stunt, and may face jail time if found guilty under the Penal Code Section 143, I truly hope he will spend his days in solace, trying to get in touch with his tainted soul in order to understand where all the anger within him is coming from.

I pray that Jamal will also not forget to zikir, solat and dedicate himself to the Holy Book. Insya-Allah, the Almighty’s grace will shower upon him.
