Education Minister Musa Mohamad admitted to not knowing that some schools stream students according to race. His admission is a shame as all the schools are under his purview, yet he accuses that National Union of the Teaching Profession of failing to highlight it to the ministry.

Whose job is it to monitor the 'health' of the schools? If the ministry cannot monitor the well-being of schools, what can the public expect from the ministry for the education system of the country?

Given this, it is timely to revisit the concept of the Vision School. It is worrying that even without vision schools, the school administration can change the rules and do whatever they deem fit without the knowledge of the ministry (as claimed by the ministry). After this scandal, should vision schools be implemented everywhere, I see a greater danger of vernacular languages being wiped out.

A truly integrated education has to start from a top-level policy - remove the quota and unfair treatment of Malaysian citizens according to the colour of their skin and their religions.
