Keadilan winning Chinese hearts and minds
Although I do not think Keadilan will win the Indera Kayangan by-election because of its disadvantage of being an opposition, I am sure it has started to win the hearts and minds of the Chinese community throughout Malaysia by putting up a respected retired Chinese teacher as its candidate.
Khoo Yang Chong, a trilingual and four-term president of the Perlis Buddhist Association and a commissioner of oaths, symbolises a new thinking in the Chinese community that Chinese must work together with Malays, Indians, Muslims and others in harmony to seek justice, equality and dignity for all Malaysians.
Meanwhile, I hope Keadilan campaigners will not attack all MCA leaders, members and supporters indiscriminately. There are many in the MCA who are also sympathetic to Anwar Ibrahim and supportive of Keadilan in their own ways. Although we cannot show our sympathy and support openly now, we know what to do when the moment comes.
Attack issues and policies, not personalities with the exception of Dr Ling Liong Sik and his cohorts.
Many MCA grassroots leaders and members, like myself, are normal human beings too. We know what is right and wrong in the MCA and Umno leadership, and the country. But we think it is still better to stay inside the party at the moment to be the ears and eyes of the cause of justice.
Hope Keadilan understands and appreciates this.
