After almost two weeks of reading press reports on the upcoming Indera Kayangan by-elections, I have yet to know what are the issues and stand taken by the two opposing candidates that would make me vote for either of them. Most of what is reported is accusations of each party's wrongdoings in the campaigning process.

I am unsure whether it is the inexperience or lack of qualifications of government dominated news reporters that the two candidates are not asked what their stands are on issues that impact the livelihood and progress of the constituency in question.

Especially disappointing is the BN's candidate who has been given unfair advantage of government dominated press coverage when she did not take the opportunity to tell voters what issues impact life in her constituency and her plans to address them. Of course, the opposition candidate does not have the opportunity as heads will roll if any of the government's news agencies' reporters were to interview him!

So what if either one is elected? What did they say was wrong, inefficient, lacking in, abused, misused, unfair, neglected, etc, etc, in Indera Kayangan that either one would try and address if elected? A big fat nil!

However, I did read a report of the government's unfair actions on a property of the Hokkien Association as well as the construction of a sewerage facility next to the association's building, but that was about all.

And what about the top government leaders who were also given unfair advantageous press coverage? Did anyone of them state what the issues are and what they would have their candidate do if elected?

It's a sad state of affairs in this country that aspiring politicians, and in my opinion most current ones, are either devoid of issues that impact livelihoods of the citizens or they choose not to bring them up.

In the end it is always the people that pay for many of the government's mistakes or irresponsible management of the country. If this is the case, as I think it is, I dare say no matter whoever wins the Indera Kayangan election, not much is expected to change in the constituency.
