I made a visit to a so-called mini-zoo that is based at the Jabatan Perhilitan in Temerloh near Kuantan.
I was shocked to see that the animals there are in a terrible condition. It was a very hot afternoon and as I was walking around, I saw that all the water bowls were empty and I couldn’t see any workers around.
So I decided to go to the front counter where I had purchased my ticket (yes, you have to pay to eneter) to ask for the person who was in-charge.
I was speechless when he told me that there were no workers on that day, a Sunday, to fill up the water bowls for the animals there.
This is insane! Even the crocodiles were in bad shape because there wasn't even a drop of water in the pond.
The cages of the animals were so dirty and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for ages.
I even saw a tiger that had been caged up without any water in its cage and it was roaring for help! I also spotted a blind deer who looked so sad.
Looking at the situation there brought me to tears.
Most of the animals there looked stressed because of the terrible conditions. Some of them were confined to tiny barren cages or chained up without any shade.
This zoo needs to be closed. I do not support the concept of zoos. These captive animals were meant to be in the wild and not confined in zoos for the pleasure of humans.
I hope and pray that the World Wildlife Fund of Malaysia and Sahabat Alam Malaysia will help to rescue these animals from their misery.
