In recent weeks, after the change of premiership in our country, we've seen plenty of changes in the policies of the government, some good, some not so good. The new premier is very good and generous ever since he's ascended to the ‘throne'.

He is making bold decisions, I might say, such as the one involving the religious conversion of children, the 30% bumi quota removal and so on and so forth. It's all looking bright and good for the future of the country if this continues.

Can we doubt this man's intention? Perhaps. Or maybe he has good political advisors that teach him how to manouevre through these unstable political times in Malaysia. Perhaps all this is a political ploy planned by his consultants so that he can ‘win' back the hearts of the people.

Or perhaps he is truly genuine in trying to be a better person, trying to make this country level. But often, one does question, ‘Why didn't you implement the changes when you were the deputy premier? Why wait till now?'

To see the contrast in leadership between the present and the former prime ministers is a very eye -opening thing. Was the present premier unable to convince the former PM that the actions he is now taking are for the good of the party?

Was the former premier really so thickheaded in implementing changes? One can only wonder why.

However, looking back on our country, there is a general sentiment that regardless of how well or how bad Pakatan Rakyat performs in the remaining four years before the next general election, we are still going to kick out the BN government.

It's just like in the recent by-elections where ‘goodies' were given out by the ruling coalition but in the end, the people still ended up voting for Pakatan. Looks like regardless of the four years of ‘goodies' that we're gonna get in the future, the result will remain the same.

Are we Malaysians so unforgiving? That we do not believe that one man can make changes from within the ruling government and clean it out? Can four years of justice balance up about 52 years of injustice?

There are some policies which cannot be undone in four years but it is a good effort to see Najib Abdul Razak try and make changes.

I think that in this country, many of the citizens keep the phrase ‘Shame on you if you cheat me once, shame on me if you cheat me twice' very close to their hearts.

They feel they've been cheated for so long and enough is enough regardless of how much you say you're going to change, or even actually change. They will assume that your previous behaviour dictates your character.

Anyway, in this attempt to balance up the country with meritocracy (which was highly promoted by the former premier but little was done), he might have gained some friends that were his ‘enemies' before but he could also have turned friends into his enemies.

How far is our current premier willing to go? Will he lose everything or will he gain everything? Only time will tell.

I sincerely thank you, my current premier, if you are sincere in making this country a better place. Not for you, but for the average citizens.
