I refer to the letter It takes so little nowadays to be arrested .

I beg to differ with the writer that ‘the police have long lost their impartiality.'

According to the writer, the police have ‘forgotten to uphold their sacred oath of office to uphold justice, peace and the law. Somewhere along the way the police force lost its way and now serves only its political masters'.

The truth is that the police force is answerable to the political masters of the day. When the Pakatan Rakyat government comes into power, for example, the police will have to follow the instructions of the government of the day.

The arrests of Bersih activitist, Wong Chin Huat and Pas Vice-president, Mohamad Sabu are a clear indication that the present government is losing control, and in this ensuing power struggle, is making attempts to silence the few vocal individuals.

No one in the right mind would want to see a power-struggle of this nature taking place before the next general elections. Say what you like, if the Barisan government were to collapse, an election would be immediately called, without even considering the money issue.

You can always silence the vocal few, but it is the silent majority that Najib and his administration should beware of come the general elections.

People like Wong Chin Huat and even Sin Chew's Tan Hoon Cheng are hardly heard of, but because of the arrest, many fenc- sitters like me are swinging over to the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Tan was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) last year and was released after 18 hours after what former Home Minister called ‘police protection'.

According to the then minister, Syed Hamid Syed Albar, there was police information that Tan's life was being ‘threatened'!

I, for one, could not believe my eyes when I read this in the news.

Many of us may not help the Pakatan coalition to win bigger support, but if more of such injustices are being done, there is no doubt that I would even go out to campaign on behalf of the Pakatan coalition in the next general election.
