Here in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, there is a lift which has broken down around two months ago and they aren't able to fix it yet. Yes, it's true, in Malaysia -- a country with pretension to advance development especially its technological centre, which boasts several thousand engineers in the field of electrical, mechanical, and computer - and they aren't able to fix a lift. Miracle of the 21st Century!

In this university where the Queen of Johor is its chancellor (and of course her Majesty the Queen doesn't know about this issue), in the international's family apartment with 10 levels and more than 100 units, there is no any lift for more than 50 days. Women and children have to go up and down for more than 200 stairs several times a day. We could frequently hear kids say to their parents: "Daddy, mummy, we're tired, please embrace us." But, we don't know why nobody hears us.

We talked to the university's authority but nothing happened. They replied to our complaints, stating it takes at least six to eight months to fix or replace a lift in Malaysia. Can you imagine if the lift in the Parliament was to break down, Malaysia would come to a standstill for six to eight months.

We are going up and down for more than 200 stairs every day. We are addressing this letter to the Queen of Johor, the Malaysian authorities, sympathetic journalists, the university-ranking organisations and those in the service-related sector to solve our problems.
