I refer to the Malaysiakini report Gov't backs Sri Lankan resolution despite local anger .

I would like to ‘congratulate' the Malaysian government for ‘maturing' in the way it responds to events happening in other countries.

In the past, whenever attrocities were commited by a foreign government against a specific section of its populace or against a weaker country, Malaysia would be at the forefront with protests and threats.

One example was Malaysia's steadfast support for the Bosnians when they were brutally attacked, maimed and murdered by the Serbs.

Instead of readily supporting any group which is victimised by a foreign government or country, Malaysia now considers ‘carefully' what has happened and takes ‘well-reasoned' action as in its recent support of the Sri Lanka government's military actions against its Tamil minority.

What is further reflective of the current Malaysian government's ‘maturity' is that the Malaysian government is backing Sri Lanka, an ally of Israel.

Israel provides sophisticated military equipment, training and intelligence to the Sri Lankan military for actions against the Tamil minority and the LTTE.

In the past, anyone, anything or any country which had any link with Israel was viewed negatively, if not viewed as an enemy.

During Dr Mahathir Mohamad's time as PM, anything which was even faintly linked to Israel was taboo, if not ‘haram' - Mahathir's frequent tirades against Israel and the Jews is one of his and that of Malaysia's historical hallmarks.

Today, we have a new Malaysian government which has ‘matured' in its international affairs. Instead of shunning Sri Lanka, an ally of Israel, the new Malaysian government under PM Najib Abdul Razak supports Sri Lanka in their destruction and torture of their Tamil minority.

This is a first step in Malaysia's warming up to Israel and through their new buddy, Sri Lanka, Malaysia should soon have cordial ties with Israel. Protests by Malaysia against any future military action by Israel directed at the Palestinians will therefore be a thing of the past. Why?

Firstly, Malaysia can't protest because of its growing friendship with Israel. Secondly, it would be illogical, if not plain stupid, to protest against Israel's actions against the Palestinians fighting for an independent homeland, after having supported Sri Lanka in its genocide of its Tamil minority and destroying their aspiration for an independent homeland.

Furthermore, the Palestinians and the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka have many things in common - their aspirations for an independent homeland, the problems they face and the hardships they endure against tyrannical Zionists.

It is perhaps these similarities that have helped to establish a cordial relationship between the Palestinians and the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka and enabled the LTTE to receive training from PLO.

The Tamil minority and the Palestinians are on one side. Sri Lanka and Israel are on the other side, and Malaysia appears to be ready to join them by supporting Sri Lanka in its horrific actions against its Tamil minority.

Is the Malaysian government seeking to convey a message to its minorities through this open support for Sri Lanka?

That's the question all Malaysians have to ask their government when it openly ignores the sentiments of its citizens (see here ) and chooses to support a foreign country whose local envoy ridicules those citizens (see here ).
