I agree with SH Huang on his arguments on Kampung Buah Pala. However there is one important point that has been missed , and that is, the promises made by Pakatan Rakyat candidates to resolve the issue and protect their land during the March 2008 election campaign. Is that to be conveniently forgotten.

It is also important to note that the eventual signing off was done during Pakatan’s tenure. If there was a clear and written document freezing all land deals upon Pakatan coming into power then this should be used in a court of law to prove that the sale of the land was illegal. Why is the Pakatan state government not taking any action, as such.

Taking into all these considerations, I believe there is more to it then meets the eye. We need to investigate further before we can conclude what is right and what is wrong. There was one writer who suggested that the people who had made down payments would be angered if the state government was to stop the Oasis project. Is there any truth in that?

The people in Kampung Buah Pala are poor and in small numbers. They don't deserve to be treated in this manner just for the those reasons.

They have lived for 200 years on this land and the onus is on the present government to resolve the issue immaterial of who had created the problem. There are a lot of actions that the state government can take to resolve this issue such as:

1.The sale should be declared illegal as there was a directive to freeze all land deals, if this can be proven.

2. Based on the state government being only a trustee, it is illegal for them to sell the land.

3. Investigate further into how the sale was made and bring all the culprits who were involved in the scandal to court. This will teach everyone a lesson that cronyism and corruption will eventually catch up with you.

4. Look into the possibility of declaring the area as a heritage site and that nothing can be altered by the developer. Do you think the developer would still be interested in the land?

These are actions a responsible state government should take rather than just go with the blame game as it is important that the issue faced by Kampung Buah Pala residents be resolved and the status quo maintained.

Stop the inaction and move forward to resolve the issue immediately especially so when you the state government need to deliver on your promise.
