I am not an opposition member but it breaks my heart to see what is happening in the opposition circles. In a way, I do agree with SK Chan that DAP's politics have become so narrow and obsolete to the extent that it no longer represents a broad spectrum of society.

Not everyone wants an Islamic state, true. But DAP forgets, there are groups who do indeed desire the establishment of an Islamic state. A real people's party, who is interested and genuine enough to represent all types of people, would try to find a balance.

One cannot deny DAP's contributions but after 30 years in politics, this is what I hear about people's comments about the party:

"DAP as a product is no longer attractive and competitive. DAP's policies are going on the wrong direction. It's out of focus. They have departed from its own goal to built a democratic and just Malaysia.

"They failed to adapt to changes. They also fail to understand the people's wants and needs in toto. The party is a stumbling block to a new political order and winds of change in Malaysia. All they care about are Chinese voters to the extent they do not show a modicum of compassion for people of other races, culture and religion, especially the Malay-Muslims."

Is this how a democratic, multiracial, religious and cultural party is supposed to behave?

A case in point: when doa selamat was practiced during a school assembly in Penang and a parent complained, DAP, without consultation and negotiation with the school authorities demonstrated with placards outside the school.

Is this being sensitive? This matter concerned religion and should be handled with utmost care. When the truth came out, the doa selamat was only meant for Muslims students. Anyway, doa selamats are read everywhere Dewan Undangan Negeri, Dewan Rakyat, official functions, etc, where non-Muslims are also present. Why don't the DAP hold placards and demonstrate at these places, too?

DAP, in its endeavour to regain lost ground and popularity, has come down to the lowest. As Malaysian history would reflect, they would trample on other opposition parties to prop themselves up.

It decided to consort with everyone at its whim and fancy Gerakan, Gagasan Rakyat, Socialist Front and then the BA.

DAP, you have consistently failed to live up to your own standards. Before you become irrelevant, disband and join Keadilan.
