I refer to the Malaysiakini report Shocking power theft corrupting electricity supply in Sabah .

I'm offended by SESB managing director Baharin Din's statement that 'power theft has almost become a culture in Sabah. Some people are not happy unless they steal.'

He should not insult Sabahans. The least he could do is keep his mouth shout if he does not have anything good to say.

SESB is diverting the attention of Sabahans from the real problem. Sabah is suffering from frequent power interruptions due to power shortages, frequent breakdown of the dilapidated diesel generator sets and a badly managed utility.

Power theft like Non Revenue Water (NRW) is an industry hazard which has to be managed and kept to a minimum. It is not something that is unexpected.

My question to SESB is what they have been doing all this while? The impression the public gets from reading about the cat and mouse game between SESB officers and the squatters is such that this has become a critical issue.

We would like to know when the new power plants will be commissioned the progress of the newly approved power plant projects. Why is there such a long delay in Powertron 2?

What action has SESB taken? What is the alternative to the coal power plant? Don't keep us in the dark and treat Sabahans like fools.

My conclusion is simple. SESB is badly managed and its parent company TNB don't seem to give a damn. The CEO of the year is more interested to seeking publicity and promoting his image rather tackling Sabah's power woes.
