Suddenly the country wants to change another of Dr Mahathir's legacy - pledge of Internet freedom.

China is admittedly a communist country and its policy to curb freedom of expression is universal.

Even then she is slowly relenting on this tough policy. It is a sign of how much it has progressed.

On our part, we are doing just the opposite. Curbing more and more freedom of expression. We have unthinkable policies like banning names of Altantunya on television or wearing black in Ipoh.

Oh yes, the authority is scared stiff when candles are lit on the street. These are signs of an unstable government riddled with corruption, abuse of power and cronyism. It is an attempt to hide the truth from the public.

If the government is truthful, clean and sincere, no amount of propaganda can influence the public. The excuse that bloggers can inflame racial sentiments does not arise.

The government is trying to hoodwink the public into believing that bloggers are irresponsible people. Little does it realise the devils fanning racial sentiments are from its very own camp.

The recent Malay newspaper reporting "Malays are cowards" is a classic example. And it is not the first time the said paper has been doing it.

Why was the said newspaper not punished or closed down? Was the reporter reprimanded or warned?

Was the licence to published withdrawn? Had the report come from other news media, would the authority be so patient?

Yes, it is because the government has not been acting right that it is frightened of criticism.

It is because the government is infested with corruption that it fears exposure on the internet.

It is because so many of top officials and leaders are involved in scandals that they feared being stripped naked by the likes of RPK.

With all the top IT specialists in the government, I wonder how they could not counter all these 'propaganda'?

The problem is the 'propogandas' are plain truths. No amount of rebutals can erase the truth.
