On Sept 24, 2009 I went to the AmBank branch in Ayer Itam, Penang to get my faulty ATM card replaced. My card was issued to me in 2000 and I have used it for almost 10 years.
I was shocked to be informed that I have to pay RM12.00 to do that. This is daylight robbery! I am already charged RM8 annually for the use of the ATM card.
Meanwhile, banks are so happy to issue thousands of credit cards for free. And they even beg you to accept their credit cards.
How can banks charge for the replacement of an ATM card? These plastic cards do not last for eternity!
I appeal to Bank Negara to take action to stop this grossly unfair practice. These banks are truly milking customers dry. How can they be justified in charging these fees to customers?
I am in the process right now to close my account with AmBank.
