We refer to the letter We say it again: Support for Porr project wrong .

This latest letter by CAP President SM Mohd Idris, is in reply to my rebuttal to his misrepresentation of the Penang state government's position on the Penang Outer Ring Road (Porr) project.

Idris should stop barking up the wrong tree and desist in his penchant for selective reading of news reports to suit his arguments.

First he refuses to admit that he was wrong to falsely accuse Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng that Lim would not consult the public on the Porr project. This report clearly states that public consultation would continue.

Secondly, he tries to fudge the issue by insisting that the Penang state government had supported unreservedly the original Porr project. Lim had been consistent in wanting a ring road to overcome traffic congestion but not at the original proposed route which did not take into account public congestion and views, especially the environmental impact.

Thirdly, the Porr project was proposed by the federal government and what’s wrong if we have a project done by the federal government in Penang?

Any city that does not have at least one ring road would not be able to alleviate or resolve a traffic gridlock as the one faced by Penang.

The question is in what form and cost to the public. Why should we keep a closed mind if there is a proposed ring road different from the original Porr and acceptable to the public after consultation?

Let us please seek truth from facts and not distort truth from facts.

T he writer is press secretary to the Penang chief minister .
