Credit card charges hardly prudent
I refer to the Malaysiakini report PM slashes spending in Budget 2010 .
The government says they are going to charge a service fee of RM50 on every credit card holder because they want to encourage prudent spending. What kind of logic is this?
All my credit cards are free of charge meaning there are no annual fees for life. And I only choose to have these credit cards with no service fees or annual fees because it's prudent.
I pay off all my outstanding balances completely every month so that they do not incur any interest because it's prudent.
I only have credit cards because it's convenient and I don't want to carry a big thick, stash of cash around me in my wallet, plus I get rebates from using these credit cards.
Besides, credit cards are now a necessity rather than a choice. You need them for hotels, hospitals, etc.
Now, I have four credit cards and my wife has two supplementary cards from me.
If the government now charges a service fee of RM50 for each primary card holder and RM25 for each supplementary card holder, that means I will have to start paying RM250 per year, when I am paying zero ringgit today!
How is this prudent?? Can the prime minister please explain how financially prudent it is to pay more now that before? What logic is this?
It seems that the 2010 budget is only prudent for the banks but not for the ordinary Malaysians.
