I refer to the Malaysiakini report MP with 'criminal record' banned from giving sermons .

I applaud the call by Khalid Samad for a scrutiny of the allegedly colonial provisions in the Selangor Islamic laws.

I propose that these amendments be made in a holistic manner and not limited to the ‘licensing provision’ for speakers and teachers on Islamic matters in the state.

I have a quaint complaint. My 12-year-old cat requires a particular food requirement, an ‘X’ prescriptive diet. I was informed by a retailer in Petaling Jaya that this brand is now not available because it contains ‘oil which is non-halal’ (the retailer's words).

I am quite puzzled by this and wonder if the Islamic authorities have any knowledge if this item is consumed by a human Muslim to make this call.

I have not ever come across any verses in the Qur'an or a ‘hadith’ extolling Muslims to ensure that their pets observe Muslim rituals.

My cat in its well-spent youth has consumed, I believe, a variety of animals like sparrows which I believe have not been slaughtered according to Muslim rituals. Am I to get my cat to go through a purification exercise?

I think not. Am I to carry the burden of my cat's ‘sins’ for its consumption of non-halal meat? I think not.

Is there any sense in this story? I think the Islamic authorities should stop at some point from such a stupid exercise. I request that Khalid Samad stop this lunacy on the part of Selangor's Muslim civil servants or raise the matter with the relevant federal authorities.

I am sure I am not the only one with a complaint about insensible ‘halal-haram’ prohibitions.
