I refer to the Malaysiakini article Mahathir gave us anomie . Firstly, I must say that this is an excellent article. I would also like to add on various observations.

Dr Mahathir Mohamd is a very intelligent man. Unfortunately, he is also a shrewd and I would not hesitate to add, an evil man.

If we look more deeply into his statements, we can observe that every statement and every remark of his is calculated to inflict maximum insult to groups or races that he does not like or agree with.

They are also to inflict maximum damage to the fragile race relations that we have. Why is that so? Probably to stir racial unrest to camouflage certain issues and serve his own interest?

So what George Soros once said bout this man - ie, ‘being a great menace to his own country ‘ has a lot of truth in it.

During his 22-year rule, much development had been attributed to him. However, it was only physical and material development - tall towers, huge malls, new towns, mega-office blocks, etc.

But reasoning and mental development and moral, character and social development either stagnated or even went backwards those 22 years.

He was well on his way to creating a society where money, physical symbols, etc are all-important and where truth, ethics, morality, honesty, scruples and honour are conveniently thrown out the window.

On second thoughts, I wonder how much of the rapid growth can actually be attributed to him. After all, the whole world was booming in the 90s.

With or without Mahathir at the helm, Malaysia would still have grown by leaps and bounds - look at Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, etc at that time.

All of them grew at a tremendous pace regardless of who is the leader was.
