Dear TMNet Managers,

Before you relegate this letter to your mountain of complaints, please take heart that I am not here to complain about your services. I'm sure you've had your fair share of it. I am, however, writing this to make a simple suggestion based on what I have observed thus far.

According to your website , the contention ratio is 1:25. I must say that I am quite shocked to discover that my Internet connection could at any time be shared with up to 24 other users.

This would not be such a big deal if you stop advertising your services as ‘unlimited’ but rather as limited data services like what P1WiMax is doing. As a matter of fact, in countries with limited bandwidth such as Australia, Internet Service Providers limit their users to a monthly quota eg 10GB.

Upon exceeding this limit, users would be capped at a slow but usable speed eg 56kbps. Limiting Streamyx users' monthly upload/download would be to TMNet's benefit as it would discourage excessive downloads (many of which are in violation of TM's terms of service).

This in addition to improving the reliability of your service. As an IT industry person myself, it is to my understanding that the installation of such an infrastructure (to track user upload/download and limit user bandwidth when necessary) would not be too great a cost for a corporation such as TMNet.

In addition, TM already practices ‘traffic-shaping’ so why not take it one step further by capping users' monthly upload/download to a reasonable amount eg, 5GB for the 512kbps RM66 ‘unlimited’ service.

Heavy downloaders would then think twice before downloading while light users would be able to check their e-mails, read news and view the occasional video at the speed for which they are paying for.

Once again, I truly hope that you would take this humble suggestion into consideration. I trust TMNet would act in the best interest of the people and nation as a whole and continue to take steps necessary towards achieving the government's vision of improved broadband penetration.
