I refer to Malaysiakini report PKR supremo gears up for a make or break sodomy trial .

To borrow a line from the film dedicated to Michael Jackson: ‘This is it’. With the partiality of our judiciary, one doesn’t have to have a legal mind to know what the decision will be.

Much water has flowed under the bridge since the last charges were slapped on the former deputy prime minister almost a decade ago. Since then, those who played key roles in the convictions against Anwar Ibrahim - such as the then High Court judge Augustine Paul and the then attorney-general, Mokhtar Sidin - have passed away.

The minor players who played assisting roles - such as present Attorney-General Abdul Ghani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan - have been promoted to the top of their respective departments.

In other words, the players who previously played minor roles are now the main actors. Now our intelligence is again being insulted in being asked to believe that a 60-plus year old man sodomised Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, a young man in his 20s.

But then again , this is Malaysia, where anything goes. Anybody with an ounce of reason can see that the second sodomy charge against Anwar is part of another fabricated lie formulated to deny him from becoming prime minister.

Concerns about this being another sham trial seems to be falling on deaf ears. Our government is hell bent on crippling the opposition front before next general election.

Only leaders who know they have very little legitimacy would stoop so low as to maintain themselves in power. Whether Anwar is sent to prison or not, the winds of change blowing on our shores cannot be stopped.

If Anwar were to be imprisoned, I am sure there will be other leaders from Pakatan Rakyat who can fill his shoes. People know by now that BN leaders are corrupt to the core and need to be replaced.

Will Zaid Ibrahim from PKR, Khalid Samad or Nizar Jamaluddin from PAS or Lim Guan Eng of DAP rise to the occasion if they have to form the federal government without Anwar?

The issue can only be addressed at the next general election whenever that happens. For the majority of Malaysians, the sooner the better.
