I refer to the Malaysiakini report No fresh polls for MCA, only 13 CC members offer to quit .

Until last Friday, I kept my silence. Although I have not been happy with developments taking place in the MCA, I wanted to believe that the party leaders know best how to serve the community and, by extension, the country.

I was wrong. Very wrong.

Last Friday, all hope was dashed for a just solution to the crisis in the MCA. On Friday evening, everyone around me sighed in frustration when we heard the news over television. The central committee meeting was clearly a futile exercise.

It does seem as if the MCA president and his deputy are determined not to resolve the crisis in the best possible way – and this, to many of us, would be through party elections which should be conducted as soon as possible.

Although I am disappointed, I welcome the setting up of the Mirt (MCA Integrity Restoring Task Force). If the objective of the task force to ensure that party elections are held, many of us will support it. But they must be serious and they must act fast and responsibly.

Only by going down to the grassroots and getting delegates to democratically decide who they really want as leaders can the matter be resolved.

Please let the Mirt do its work because so many of us are just tired, in fact, plain exhausted by the myriad and hidden agendas of party leaders who claim to be leading the MCA but who have lost the support of the community.
