I do believe that politics is all about the spin, but the current situation with MCA has really left my head reeling. The broken promises and mixed messages have given me a sick feeling in my stomach.

When are we going to step off this merry-go-round that has wound us all up in an exasperated knot of no confidence? We are trying to regain our integrity. Yet how are we expected to when the very people entrusted with this task are themselves lacking in it?

I strongly believe that integrity is to have a steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.

But our self-proclaimed leaders have proven themselves to be at turns morally corrupt, unsound and divided. If one leads by example, then they have already proclaimed their manifestos that will lead us to the dark world of indecent dalliances and convenient alliances.

Such is the fragility of our party that we have even the need for the MCA Integrity Restoring Taskforce (Mirt) – its existence just goes to show our gross deficiencies. This is such a far cry from what the party once was. Is this what we want?

There is a simple solution – let us have our elections and let us choose once again who we want as our leaders. If by some lapse in judgement, which at this time cannot be deemed impossible, we choose the very same people that have caused and started the disintegration of the party, so be it. I will be the first to shut my mouth because the people have chosen.

But to deny us the right to cast our vote is a terrible crime against the individual and the party. If we want to rise above the mess we have made, we need to stop chasing each other around the playground and focus on the work we need to do to restore the party, not to its old glories, but to a new and improved future.

It’s time for change.
