I write to you on behalf of a number of MCA delegates. As we have no avenue to complain, we hope to publicise our response regarding the rejected resolutions we had supported and hoped to debate at the upcoming AGM. The four resolutions that were rejected are as follows:

1. Due to the resolution of the Oct 10 EGM not being exercised, it is a serious breach of the legal status of the general assembly as the ultimate authority in the party according to provision number 27 of the constitution of the MCA.

The current central committee has plagiarised the function of the general assembly to make important decisions for the party. We consequently request to immediately dissolve the current MCA central committee, to hold re-elections of the central xommittee with the term of appointment till the expiration of current central committee.

2. To urge the party central committee to execute the long-overdue central board of trustee financial management mechanism as soon as possible, to ensure the professionalism and transparency of personnel appointment and removal as well as the operation and management of party-owned enterprises to avoid party assets and party-owned enterprises from being abused by any person in authority.

3. To urge the party central committee to amend constitution provision number 46 in that in addition to the current ex-officio members of the presidential committee regulated by the constitution of the MCA at the present time, members of presidential Council should compulsorily include all of the four voted vice-presidents and two ex-officio vice-presidents, namely the Wanita MCA national chairperson and the MCA national youth chairperson.

Furthermore, all those who hold positions in the central government should also be included as members of presidential council automatically.

4. To urge the party central committee to amend the constitution in order to standardise the power of appointment and termination of executive members (including the secretary, treasurer, organising secretary, deputy secretary, deputy treasurer, deputy organising secretary) and committee members by chairpersons of organisations at all levels/president, so that the term of appointment of the appointees is until his/her resignation or by termination by the general assembly for any reason or until the suspension of the related chairperson/president him/herself.

As can be seen, the above resolutions question the type of democracy being practiced by the leaders of MCA today that disregards the voices of the grassroots. It also concerns the financial mismanagement in the party headquarters. The mechanisms that we want include are to ensure party officials can be fired only upon the consent of a majority and not solely by the president.

These are merely resolutions we want debated, so the response by the leadership in rejecting the resolutions as being unconstitutional is unacceptable. We want to debate whether there is need to amend the constitution, not amend it straight away.

The theme for this year’s AGM is ‘to be united’ but one can only stand united with the rest if his position is respected and his voice is heard. The current leaders of the MCA must stop their hypocrisy.
