I am truly aghast by the news that the government has allowed sports betting to be legalised.  

How hypocritical can BN be when on one hand they claim to protect the interests of Islam and other religions who oppose vices and the next, they approve something that is not only against all the major religions but a social degradation as well?

This very act itself shows that the government is only crazy about money. They then make the editor of a local newspaper write a powerful article supporting the move in the name of collecting revenue for the government and that we cannot stop the ‘underground’ betting syndicates.  

What lame excuses. Are we going to rob the poor (as most punters are poor people hoping to make a kill) to enrich the already rich?

Are these advocates of ‘join them if you can’t beat them’ in terms of sports betting, admitting that the police cannot stop illegal gambling? This does not speak well of our police and enforcement authorities.

It will also degrade sports because it will not be viewed by many as a form of gambling. Betting on sports is the cause of ‘game-fixing in most cases’. Is this the way the BN government wants us to view sports?  

Where is the concern for developing a healthy lifestyle with sports? What kind of message are we going to send to our children regarding sports?  

This is the most backward step towards evil the government has taken by legalising gambling in sports. Unless, like always, the government makes a flip-flop again, I have no more respect for this administration. This may very well be the last nail in the coffin of BN as far I am concerned.
