Time for nationwide 'hartal'
I refer to the Malaysiakini report Teoh inquest: 'Goodbye' message in mystery note .
It is pitiable that many educated Malaysians are whining about trivia such as the authenticity of suicide note, the incompetence of the IO etc.
In my opinion the ruling elite who are stage managing the inquest won't be bothered one bit for they control the army, the police and the civil service.
Even Parliament whose business is directed by a partisan speaker does not provide us with a platform to articulate our just grievances – issues raised by opposition members are more often than not dismissed as irrelevant or unimportant.
Perhaps now is the time for the opposition parties to rally citizens for a two-week long nation wide hartal to show our disgust at the thieves who with their hands on the levers of power prostitute religion to accumulate wealth immorally.
The alternative is to wait for a brilliant leader with the calibre of a Gen Vo Nguyen Giap to lead us in our struggle for justice.
‘... that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organising its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness ... (excerpt from the American Declaration of Independence, 1776).
