Talent Corp not required if citizens had fair deal

In the Tenth Malaysia Plan the prime minister in his Dewan Rakyat speech said:

80. To attract more skilled workers into the country, the Government will establish a Talent Corporation, which will identify skill shortages in key sectors, and attract and retain necessary skilled human capital. While we are faced with the shortage of skilled manpower, there are more than 700,000 Malaysians currently working abroad. The Talent Corporation is expected to spearhead Malaysia's initiative to attract the Malaysian diaspora back to the country to contribute to the country's skilled manpower needs.

81. For this, the Talent Corporation will provide an integrated Skilled Human Capital Blueprint with the cooperation of the public and private sectors. In addition, the Talent Corporation will become a one-stop centre to coordinate with relevant government agencies, including immigration matters, for the entry of skilled workers into the country.

What an elegantly written speech. "Skilled Human Capital Blueprint...".

Najib, let's put things together shall we. We start with the nice facts, then we move on the obvious but not so nice facts, then we try to connect the dots... slowly... I'll help you out.

You are in charge of a beautiful and truly lucky country blessed with natural resources and multiplicity of cultures and heritages. Your party has been in charge for half a century. Who wouldn't want to live here? Sounds like paradise.

700,000 folks thought otherwise. Most of them are of Chinese descent. Most of them are well educated. Many more are thinking of getting the hell out. Why is that? Aren't you a tiny bit surprised to see the pattern?

I'll help you. Those who are well educated are valued for their ability to contribute and produce, irrespective of the colour of their skin. This is not true in Malaysia.

If all races were treated well equally, or treated badly equally, we would expect migration patterns to reflect this. But, hang on; this is also not true in Malaysia.

‘Equal' citizens are given preferential treatment based on the colour of their skin, not based on their socio-economic background. Who complains if the government helps the poor? Do you not get it? Your government is racist. Its not about helping the poor who happen to be Malays. It's your party's excuse to stay in power. "Cakap tak serupa bikin" if it helps you understand.

Why are more leaving? The core of the matter is getting worse, that's why.

I'll give you your Talent Corporation Skilled Human Capital Blueprint: Be serious about eradicating corruption, do away with race based policies and replace them with those based on socio-economic backgrounds, eliminate quotas that encourage Malays to invest less in human capital, give everyone equal opportunities.

That's all. They'll all come home. You don't need a Talent Corporation for that. After all, it's a beautiful country. They are not stupid, you know.

But, it's difficult. You need to stay in power, and all that can't be done. The 700,000 will be trying to get their loved ones out so they don't have to be part of the sinking ship. You can quota all you want, they won't even think about it. What for? After all, according to those quotas, it's your country, not theirs.
