I strongly disagree with the assertion among apple polishers and fan puffers that Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera ( Teraju ) is a step in the right direction.
To me this is just another case of an old idea with new packaging. All these ideas have been done and tested under different guises. We had a whole ministry devoted to this before, called the ministry of entrepreneurial development, but it was closed down. We still have Mara, PNS, and many of the GLCs have been working on this under various guises.
What is new is that yet another agency/unit has been added to the PM’s Department after Pemandu and the Talent Corporation.
Many of the existing ministries and agencies have dedicated units for bumiputera development and the whole government has been working on this agenda for years.
A new unit will not be making that much difference, if any at all.
All it will do is increase the government budget outflows on salaries and new positions that will be created.
