We, Neil Khor Jin Keong and Khoo Kay Peng, are the authors of the book entitled ‘Non-Sectarian Politics in Malaysia: The Case of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia’ (“the Book”).

We refer to p. 145 of the Book which states, “Chia’s credibility took a severe beating when his brother Chia Loong Thye was nominated for the ‘safe’ seat of Tanjong Bungah. Both Chia brothers were regarded as “boh chee ghee” (lack of integrity) for having sold-out and compromised the party” (“the said statement”).

We truly believe that the said statement is false, inaccurate and baseless as Mr Chia Loong Thye has not conducted himself in a manner to be described as a person who lacks integrity, and has sold out and compromised Parti Gerakan.

We wish to withdraw the incorrect statement. We apologise unreservedly to Mr Chia Loong Thye for the embarrassment, humiliation and ridicule that Mr Chia Loong Thye may have suffered due to the publication of the said statement in the Book.
