Dear President of Singapore,

Nobody knows about being given a second chance more than I do, as I had been given this much needed second chance to live for a serious criminal act (an act that is punishable in the same manner as drug offences) in Malaysia a few years back.  

Now, I have reformed and am a useful individual to society, engaging in activities ranging from contributions to recycling activities, religious group studies, and educating young children on filial piety.  

Not only that, I have managed to secure a good career with a multinational organisation. The fact I’m trying to relate is that, there are convicted individuals who sincerely want to turn a new leaf.  In this case, Mr President, you are looking at one highly possible individual just like me…..but in this case, it’s Yong Vui Kong.

Frankly, I neither know Yong nor am related to him but I just know that appealing for him is the only right thing to do, in the same way that communities appealed for me a few years back.  I refuse to write long letters as the noble decision shouldn’t be based on lengthy correspondence but a mere touch of belief that even the most serious offender once had a pure character within.  

Mr President, by providing this pardon, nobody will label you or Singapore as weak but a country that harbours kind people and such a country will prosper for many more years to come because you have planted the seed of compassion.
