I am very much dismayed by the response to the controversy of unfair distribution of Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships.

As the chairman of Higher Education Bureau, National MIC Youth I strongly oppose the ‘fact' that priorities are given based on race when it comes to receiving scholarships.

Education should be fair for all students.

There should not be any space for racial segregation in awarding government scholarships. If a student who is already a Malaysian by citizenship, he/she has to be given equal rights to a good education.

After all, they have struggled hard to earn it and it is plainly unfair to not give them what they deserve.

Nobody is questioning the Federal Constitution here and as a matter of fact we (non-Malays) have acknowledged the Malay rights for a long time now.

Thus there is no need to bring in the issue of going against the Federal Constitution or such. What we are putting forward is rights to receive government scholarship by students who have done well regardless of their race and religion.

These students are the cream of the crop of the society. Due to not being awarded a government scholarship, they tend to study abroad or are grabbed by our neighbour country.

Some parents even have to fork out a burdensome amount of money to fulfill the dreams of their children who did well.

Out of frustration for not being fairly treated in terms of education benefits, these students would have the tendency to work abroad and most do not return to Malaysia.

It would be such a waste to lose such brilliant students who could contribute so much to the development of this country.

I hope Perkasa sees this issue in a better perspective and not talk about Malay rights only.

We are just hoping to get justice in education for the kids in Malaysia. Just as the promises made by our Prime Minister that all top scorers with 8A+ and above will be fairly given a scholarship,

I think we are not blatantly making a controversy out of this issue. It is something that needs serious attention for the betterment of this country in par with the 1Malaysia policy.
