DAP Sabah is exceptionally disappointed with the government and the police for releasing self-proclaimed ‘Sultan of Sulu’ Datu Akjan unconditionally. This is despite the fact the police requested the public to make the police reports and also the National CID Director has classified this case as unique and serious.

The government is either hiding something or does not have the will to persecute the Sultan of Sulu, the man who is an Umno leader and who has helped to recruit and enrol thousands of illegal immigrants into the electoral roll thus ensuring the political superiority of Umno in Sabah.

The coronation of Datu Akjan as Sultan of Sulu on Malaysian soil is an open challenge to our king and the constitution. This is sedition of the highest order and an act of treason at the same time.

Datu Akjan’s background must be investigated and verified. Is he born in Sabah or the Philippines? His desire to be the Sultan of Sulu alone, is good enough for the government to send him back to the Philippines.

Junz Wong is the DAP Sabah assistant secretary.
