Why are we still arguing about whether science and maths are to be taught in English? Isn’t the answer obvious to everyone? We should not only teach maths and science in English but revert back to the days when the medium of instruction was English from primary school and then allow students to elect to learn their mother tongues with Bahasa Malaysia as the compulsory language.

The country had such a strong English heritage but now even our local university graduates are unable to write a decent paragraph in English. Shouldn’t our Education Ministry take very drastic immediate steps to correct this weakness?

Singapore is presently talking about whether to learn American English as opposed to British English and here we are still arguing about teaching some subjects in English?

I understand that even China despite its nationalistic outlook is taking steps to introduce English beginning from their primary schools and give them 12 years of education, they will produce a new generation proficient in English.

The next generation of Malaysians are going to be left even further behind in terms of employability. We have to face the fact that worldwide, the means of communication is English and the sooner we face this fact and take the necessary action the better for the next generation of Malaysians.
