Those of us who follow world news know only too well that what is happening in the Eurozone is unbelievably scary because of the disastrous repercussions it will have on its member states and the rest of the world.

Right now, it is Greece that is causing the most concern. Soon, it will be the turn of others that are up to their eyeballs in debt.

Hopefully these governments and their people will soon realise that unless they curb their easygoing, unproductive, government-dependent, sports-oriented and fun-loving lifestyles, their fate will be no different from that of the Greek tragedy.

We are all aware of the problems facing Greece right now. It is in every sense precariously lodged between a rock and a hard place. It is hopelessly in debt.

Its unemployment rate is now 17 percent and rising. Its people are suffering. Its government does not seem to have a clue on what to do next.

The question that needs to be asked by the world citizenry at large and Malaysians in particular is how on earth did Greece end up in this mess.

The answer is really quite simple - years and years of corruption and the operation of a bloated bureaucracy doing unproductive work that complacent Greeks have come to accept as a way of life.

As wholesale corruption, cronyism and a bloated civil service, all of which have been well crafted and turned into an art form by successive Malaysian governments into a way of life, it is only the sightless or the mentally-deficient who can't see the abyss that lies ahead.

In effect, one could say that the future is even more perilous for Malaysia given the generations of young people who have been deliberately brought up by self-serving, race-centric, govern-at-all-costs politicians into thinking that as superior citizens because of their race and religion, free lunches, handouts, perks and privileges are all part of their lives' entitlements.

Beware of the gifts that the Greeks have given to the world, people!
