Tang Si Hang should stop using the TNB high tension tower case to for politics. Tang was the state assemblyman for Rawang and the Selangor executive committee member in 2004. As part of the government he could have stopped TNB from using the village.

However, he did not protect the villagers and instead stood on TNB’s side. Chan Kok Choy was the then Selayang member of parliament and the minister in the federal government. MCA as part of both the state and federal governments could have stopped TNB from using the village route, but they allowed TNB to do so.

If Pakatan Rakyat did not form the state government in 2008, TNB would have gone through the village today. Therefore  Tang Si Hang and MCA allowed TNB to come into the village when they had the power to stop them; they therefore do not have the standing to talk about the Keadilan elected representatives and the Pakatan Rakyat government’s efforts to resolve the issue caused during the time of MCA’s administration.

Both Tang Si Hang and Donald Lim should stop making references to “the first come first served” principle because this is not a solution. The new village was first in the timeline before TNB came.

The issue is whether TNB and the federal government care about the safety and welfare of the people and the misery caused to them with high tension towers and cables passing through the village.

There is no reason to cause this misery since the international consultant has confirmed that there are no technical problems for TNB to use the alternative routes. The prime minister and the cabinet has the power to direct TNB to use the alternative route. This matter should not be delayed further. The state government is ready to provide the alternative route.

I call upon  Donald Lim to exercise his powers as a deputy minister to ask the federal government to consider the plight of the villagers and show that they put the people first and not TNB’s profits.

The federal government has a golden share in TNB and is able to control the management of TNB. This is the time for the federal government to show by deeds and not just by words that it cares for the people.

William Leong is Selayang member of parliament.
