I am appalled that the Election Commission (EC) had only just discovered the ‘ error ’ in delineation thus affecting MB Khalid Ibrahim's voting rights.

Such an error of judgment through negligence or inadvertence cannot be left to the sole discretion of the EC. There should be a body that the EC should be referred to which could be seen as impartial in assessing the inadvertence or malice.

We are thus reminded to remain vigilant of the body that has been entrusted by the federal constitution to protect and secure our rights to a responsible government. Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi! I hope the opposition, independent academia and NGOs will track all the discrepancies as we are nearing the next GE.

I trust that the institutions of democracy such as the Malaysian Bar and other NGOs should come to the forefront to protest such unilateral actions of the EC.

As we have had a track record of collusion of the EC with BN the party in power since independence whittling away our basic rights to democracy, any and every 'administrative' act by the EC has to be properly scrutinised.

Such unilateral acts of the EC however small should be called into question. We have to be scrupulous and zealous in guarding our freedoms. " Pilihan Raya or Jalan Raya ?" (Election, or street politics), the Hishamuddin Rais adage comes to mind.

The EC and the Najib administration must bear the wrath of the citizens for continuously crossing us in our path to a better government.
