All people in the country should be instilled with loyalty to for the nation.

Race, religion, and language should not stand in the way. Neither should political differences. It is our country.

That we are people of this country should be the feeling. Political differences should be kept at bay when it comes to loyalty or love of the country.

In practice this is what happens. The celebration is a one party affair - that of the ruling party.

On television, the national celebrations show the leaders and their spouses of that one party giggling and waving.

Does it mean that the opposition leaders and their followers are not loyal to the nation? Are they not celebrating?

Give publicity to their joy and their love of the nation so that though we disagree in politics, we are one people and agree and encourage and support love for the country.

There are posters hanging all over the towns. We see the pictures of the Menteri Besar and the premier in the posters.

It should be the pictures of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tan Cheng Lock and V T Sambanthan for the younger generation to understand that we as the people of Malaysia (formerly Malaya) got our freedom from colonial masters as one people.

East Malaysia should celebrate Malaysia Day and should reflect on the unity of the country and people.

In fact Malaysia Day should be celebrated with a holiday for all, and unity functions to instill the sense of "Satu Malaysia Satu Rakyat" that we are one people and one nation. In fact Malaysia, got full freedom on that day.

We should also highlight aspects of the struggle of people of East Malaysia on the road to independence, the history of which is not well known.
