I am surprised to read the remarks made by Saifuddin Nasution that he does not agree that the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize Award is now absolutely based on political considerations rather than on the merits of an individual struggling to achieve national peace and stability.

Through the years, the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize has been diluted with political achievements by an individual or group of revolutionists in attempts to overthrow their legitimate governments of the day. If this is not politically motivated, then what Nobel peace prize are we talking about?

I am sure all Malaysians, including our prime minister, will be proud of Anwar Ibrahim's possible nomination, if it is done impartially in recognition of his past contributions towards social achievements and humanity development for a better and prosperous Malaysia.

There should be no denial that Anwar's tenure in the Malaysian cabinet should be recognised, and his sudden departure from the scene was badly felt in initial stages within the cabinet.

It is widely acknowledged that till today, a significant number of Malaysians have yet to accept the fate that befell Anwar.

Keadilan was formed to fight for his cause but it failed to achieve its ambition of democratically ousting the government in the 1999 general elections.

Democracy is still alive and all peace-loving citizens will continue to support the BN government and refrain from any attempt to reduce the majority of the ruling party. If we need a political change for the better, do it in a democratic manner as provided for under the Constitution. There is no need to go on a rampage and destroy what we have achieved over the years since our independence.

Politics is power but political ambition is evil and must be dealt with in absolute sanity with the consensus of the majority.

As citizens of this beautiful country, we should ask our conscience what the BN government has done to betray the national interest of our people and if so, is there a legitimate right for us to condemn and overthrow our elected government just for the sake of opposition with the help of external forces?

In conclusion, Malaysians should re-examine ourselves and do away with any personal glory, including the possible nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
