It is insensitive of our television stations to air the ritual of cattle slaughtering on Hari Raya Haji. While the slaughter is a religious obligation for the Muslims, the sight is painful for Hindus who consider the cow a sacred animal.

In Malaysia where we take pride in being religion-tolerant, we should be respecting the sensitivity of all races. Yet, year after year and despite continual protests, our television stations air the horrible sight of the cattle slaughter.

In fact, besides the issue of religious sensitivity, it is also disgusting to see an animal being killed and dying before our eyes. Do we need to see this kind of atrocity on a news programme?

The TV stations should realise that their programmes are watched by people from all walks of life and of various religious backgrounds. I wonder why when the pigs were culled in Bukit Pelandok during the JE scare, not a single scene of a pig being killed was shown on TV?
