I refer to JC's letter How different is Clinton from Chu? (Mar 4) commenting on the call by MCA to ban disgraced Taiwanese politician Chu Mei-Feng from staging a concert here and that local women's groups were guilty of double standards for not coming to her defence while they have been vocal on the ban on Vagina Monologues .

On the contrary, I believe women's groups here have kept rather quiet over KL City Hall's ban on the stage play, Vagina Monologues . The concerns expressed over the ban were articulated by individual women with no formal ties to women's non-governmental organisations as such. The coming together was necessary because of the silence of women's groups.

Perhaps the issue of women's sexuality is taboo to women NGOs!

The letter Unshackle us from closed minds (Feb 21) bemoans this very fact. There is a growing number of women who are coming together in a loose discussion group to discuss the issues surrounding the ban and perhaps this coming together might raise the necessary critical challenges on sexuality.
