The Memali incident which took place in 1985 happened when I was still studying, so much of it have become hazy memories but I did remember that I was too scared to even ask questions about it.

I am pleased to read in your article Fadzil says police torched truck at PAS ceramah that there are survivors from this tragedy. Memali happened at a time in our history when we accepted our government's explanations unquestioningly.

It may be too late for the survivors to make any kind of civil claims against the police and security forces but it is still not too late for them to lodge a complaint to Suhakam.

This act may then allow Malaysians to find out the story from the survivors' angle and give us the opportunity to decide for ourselves what actually happened and how we can understand afresh the story that is 'Memali'.
