As a reader of The Star , I find it highly insulting and inappropriate for Gerakan president Dr Lim Keng Yaik to publicly deride The Star as a "toilet paper". Lim should offer an open and immediate apology to not only the management and staff, but also readers like me.

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) too should demand an immediate and open apology from the Gerakan president for insulting their members without discrimination.

It is true that MCA owns The Star , but for it to be publicly called a "toilet paper" is not only unfair, but also uncultured. Does it mean that those positive news about Gerakan in it can also be viewed in the same light?

Does it mean that Gerakan no longer need any more news coverage in The Star from now on?

As for me, whatever its shortcomings, The Star is still a better and fairer paper than the others.
