During Anwar Ibrahims ongoing appeal against his corruption conviction in the Federal Court, I notice that his condition is getting worse day by day. I have read in the newspapers that he is constantly on painkillers, and now has to be wheeled into the courtroom.

If Anwar still insists on having an overseas surgery at the expense of his health and maybe even his life, it wont help the Barisan Alternatif. What is Anwar trying to prove or achieve for that matter? The rakyat knows that the government has not acted fair and would not budge from its position. I think it is high time that Anwar comes to terms with having an operation locally. After all, most of our top surgeons have given their assurance that this operation is within their capability.

I used to agree with Anwars persistence in exerting his right but shouldnt ones health be given priority over ones stubbornness? I urge Anwar to undergo his back surgery locally and not try to use his illness to gain public sympathy.

The rakyat may start to wonder if there is a real reason for Anwar insisting on an overseas trip; as there is talk that it is just to garner foreign support and getting political asylum so as to escape Sungai Buloh.

I again urge Anwar to have the surgery locally, as most of us can no longer sympathise with a man who refuses to help himself.
