I think people from both sides of the causeway are concerned withthe manner in which Singapores reclamation project may affect the eco-system and/or economic uses of the Tebrau Straits. I hope this does not mean that friendly Malaysians would eye with suspicion the numerous Singaporeans residing or visiting Johor.

I would also like to put on record that Johor has also to monitor the uses of its rivers pouring into the Straits. Several years ago, I believed fisherfolk were concerned with debris and pollution in the Johor rivers that were killing off the flora and fauna in the area.

Perhaps the protest and fanfare of non-governmental organisations over the reclamation in Singapore could include the use and abuse of the rivers as well while they are in Johor to look into the matter.
