At one of the public meetings

held together with the 58th Session of the Commission of Human Rights held in UN Palais De Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, we are once again accused of violating basic fundamental human rights in Malaysia by none other than Malaysians!

I was initially shocked and saddened when informed of these allegations by foreign colleagues who seemed more concerned of its effects and implications towards the country's long-term interest and positioning in the world.

It is rather ironical that foreigners here seemed more concerned for our nation's image rather than those who have benefited greatly from the development and progressive policies of this nation.

What is the justification of such allegations and claims that the human rights situation in Malaysia had deteriorated and other unsubstantiated allegations that portray the Malaysian government and its leaders in rather bad light?

The government led by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is spending time and resources to position Malaysia in the international arena which will eventually lead to economic progress and development.

Various government ministries and organisations are undertaking great tasks to spearhead economic growth, lure international investments and foreign tourists to our shores.

And all these individuals and organisations travelling on a Malaysian passport can do is smear and "Malaysia-bash" at an international meet!

What is the real objective except to embarrass the government and all Malaysians!

For the record, what human rights violations are they talking about?

Is it a fundamental principle in human rights to allow individuals and a minority group with a devious political agenda to undermine the peace, economic growth and security of the nation and all that we have painfully worked for over 45 years?

Is it a right to allow rejected and frustrated politicians and economic predators to destabilise the country for their political agenda? Whose interests are being served by these allegations and claims?

Are innocent and law-abiding Malaysians being shot at, brutalised, imprisoned, killed and body bags filled with innocent victims as is in several South American and African countries and what is transpiring in Palestine today?

These are certainly a mischievous mind at work, a plan to embarrass and tarnish our progress, peace and all that we stand for in Malaysia.

The timing of these allegations is also of great interest to me as they are made barely a month before the visit by our beloved prime ministers state visit to the United States of America and long overdue interaction with the US president.

In the interest of the nation, it is time that the Home Affairs Ministry withdrew all travel documents from these individuals on their return to the country, conduct in-depth investigations on the sources of their funding and support, and blacklist organisations who are positioned to continue such mischievous acts abroad!
