Whether Umno president and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad still wants to intervene or not, Team B MCA has no other choice but to go on with the extraordinary general meeting (EGM). Team B must not be perceived as indecisive, irresolute and wavering in the pursuit of justice and democracy in MCA.

Otherwise, it will disappoint or frustrate those who have stuck their necks out against Team A and Dr Ling Liong Sik. Team B must not repeat the mistakes made by Lee Kim Sai a few years ago.

Mahathir is not impartial or entirely neutral about the fray. He has his own personal and Umnos agenda to serve in intervening in MCA. Team B can only make use of him, but never be made use by him.

To stop the EGM because of Mahathir's intervention is silly because if Team B loses the party elections, Mahathir and Umno will just accept the outcome, then abandon and forget about Team B. Mahathir and Umno just need to side with the winner in the MCA party elections. There is no friendship in Umno's politics and strategy.

The silliest thing Team B could do to its own detriment is to call off the EGM, just after having collected enough signatures to call for one and engage in grassroots mobilisation campaign. Inconsistency and lack of firm principles are demoralising and self-defeating.
